Norval Lunan ( - 1962),

The Madras College Magazine for September 1963 reports:

NORVAL LUNAN

The death in December of Norval Lunun came as a grievous shock to us all. Although critically ill during the early part of 1962. he rallied and returned to carry on his work with his customary enthusiasm and energy. How great his courage and enthusiasm was during these months will never he known.

To list his accomplishments and endearing qualities would he a formidable task. He was a talented man, active, scholarly, above all, gentle. It is tragic that we shall never again hear his well-modulated voice bringing sanity to a healed staffroom argument or speaking with authority and knowledge on a wide variety of subjects.

His work in drama, perhaps, deserves special mention, for never was there a more able and imaginative producer, and his versions of "Hamlet" and "Le Bourgeois Gentlehomme" set a new standard of achievement in school drama.

We were indeed fortunate that he chose to enter our profession, for he had a passionate interest in every aspect of education and played an important part in establishing the teaching of Russian throughout Scotland: but his considerable talents coupled with an acute and almost encyclopaedic intellect would have guaranteed him brilliant success in any sphere of human activity.

He was a man we could ill afford to lose and he will he remembered.
